Can citizenship education help to curve the attitudes and mindset of youths who want to leave Jamaica? WHY?
According to recent UWI, Mona, National
Youth Values and Attitudes survey, close to half of the nation's youth
population between the ages of 14 and 26 and spanning all social
classes, stated that they would be willing to surrender their native
citizenship to live in another country on account of their perception
that better opportunities for social mobility reside outside of
Jamaica.

ReplyDeleteTo an extent, it will help to develop patriotism in those youth, that will help them to be more assertive in their country. Nevertheless one need to survive so both political parties must be contingent and work together to replicate opportunities that the youths see in other countries.
ReplyDeleteThat's true Sherryann. But sometimes we have to create the opportunities ourselves and not rely on politicians.
DeleteCitizenship education is a good solution to curve the mindset and attitudes of youths as it regards leaving Jamaica to live. Even though there are less opportunities for youths in the country, citizenship education can help youths to create opportunities themselves as they will develop nationalism and work towards the betterment of their country.
ReplyDeleteCitizenship education is imperative and if it is thought in school this will help with students attitudes as it regarding migrating from Jamaica. Even thou there is not plenty of job opportunities altleast when they go over they can incourage people to come here to invest in the country and help to create jobs for the nation.
ReplyDeletei agree with you all.citizenship education is a good approach to help in socialization of our youth. If we loo at the new civic curriculum it speaks to moral values, cultural identity etc. Therefore if taught by effective teacher am certain that our youths will no longer have the desire to leave.
ReplyDeleteCitizenship Education can curve the attitude and mindset of young people who want to migrate because Citizenship Education will educate them about their roots, rich heritage that makes us unique and pride that we must have in it,hence, if more young people develop national pride then you would find a decrease in the number of them migrating.

ReplyDeleteCitizenship Education has many benefits especially addressing most of our political, economic and social problems. This have an issue occurring from post-emancipation era to present day as people seek opportunity overseas. Citizenship Education can lessen this to an extent, by having people being patriotism and having national pride in creating opportunities for their fellow men in a economic climate that seems stifling. Citizenship Education does not have to lessen or stop this alarming migration crisis but it can increase greater participation in the Jamaican diaspora especially creating opportunities.
ReplyDeleteCitizenship Education is one of many benefits of keeping a country's youthful population. Once the youths start to learn what it means to be a citizen and how important being a citizen is then we can say opportunities will start to open up within one's country. Some of us are not proud of our country because we cannot define ourselves as Jamaican because of our mindset. I can say the Citizenship Education can help to curve the attitudes and mindset of youths who want to leave Jamaica
